R&P’s Sports Paths were well traveled in 2025

Aug 19, 2025
Greece’s Sports Path program had an action-packed year guiding people in remote areas of Greece on a journey mixing sports and wellness.

The traveling program offers locals an opportunity to get moving under the guidance of specialists who show the value of regular exercise. In 2025, it celebrated 10 years of inspiring participants to stay active, stay in shape, and stay social.

Over this decade, more than 9,000 children ages 5 to 12 and over 270 adults have taken part in Sports Paths. Since the start of the project, more than 500 people—teachers, physical education teachers, chess players, and theater practitioners—have joined the team as coaches to travel to 27 remote islands in service of the program.

In 2024–2025 alone, Sports Paths reached 10 islands with 10 specialists and engaged 910 children, always guided by the same threefold action plan: guiding group and creative games, developing of motor skills, and encouraging socialization.

The program capped off a whirlwind anniversary year with a closing ceremony and a brief pause before setting off for the islands of the Aegean once again with the new school year.

Guided by what brings participants joy and what brings them back for more, the Sport Paths program was established in 2015. It is implemented by Sports Excellence | Department of Sports Excellence and the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress, under the scientific supervision of the 1st Orthopedic Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
