Day of Celebration for 6th Elementary School of Alexandria in Imathia

Nov 21, 2019
Today was a day of celebration for teachers and students at the 6th Elementary School of Alexandria in Imathia. The occasion? New children's literature and fairy tale books filled their library shelves, new maps and projection screens hang on classroom walls, students have access to a new computer lab, and new basketballs, soccer balls, and volleyballs await them in the schoolyard.

It may seem self-evident that every school should have these resources, but until recently, the 6th Elementary School of Alexandria, like many other schools throughout Greece, had significant unmet needs in technological equipment, books, sports equipment, and teaching tools. A grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) helped cover the school’s needs, with the aim of supporting teachers in their vital educational work and improving the learning environment for students.

SNF has given past support to dozens of schools throughout Greece through broad initiatives and individual grants. A program initiated by the Foundation to supply musical instruments to 43 public music schools in Greece, for instance was completed a few years ago.
