At “Two Basins Workshop: Integrating Nature and Governance,” a recent workshop in Cartagena, Colombia, the Tällberg Foundation convened conservationists, legal scholars, and people with experience in the “two basins”—the Amazon Basin and the Congo Basin—to discuss new bottom-up strategies that might help forestall the ultimate destruction of their rainforests.
“We were looking for practical ways to combine good environmental policy with effective jurisprudence, solid incentives, and governance at the local level in the rainforests,” said Tällberg chairman Alan Stoga.
“We thought if we could do that and if we could imagine how to do so at scale, we might inject some hope into an otherwise bleak outlook.”
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) supported this convening and also provides support for Tällberg’s ongoing leadership initiatives like the Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Prize, of which three laureates attended the Cartagena event.
