A unique experience awaits visitors at the Goulandris Natural History Museum
The exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 12, in the presence of President of the Hellenic Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas, former President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, and representatives of the Ministerial Council, the Church, and local government.
George Agouridis, a member of SNF’s Board of Directors and its Senior Legal Advisor gave remarks on behalf of SNF, saying, “The Goulandris National History Museum was pioneering in its time, thanks to the visionaries Angelos and Niki Goulandris. The Museum recognized the need to protect the environment and raise ecological awareness long before these issues became part of the public discourse; it helped raise our children and now our grandchildren. It is a timeless source of knowledge, awareness, and inspiration. Each time we visit it, we learn something new, no matter our age, and this could not be more true for the “Biodiversity: Everything is Connected” exhibition. For this reason, all of us at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) are particularly proud to be ‘connected’ and to support this exhibition in full and, by extension, to support the Museum’s valuable work.”
In laying out the importance of biodiversity and noting ways in which it has been degraded, the exhibition highlights its vital importance in the balance of our planet, sheds light on the threats it faces, and underlines the need for a paradigmatic shift in attitude. Biodiversity is not just a list of species; it is the result of hundreds of millions of years of evolutionary history and genes that make each of us different.
Through interactive exhibits, tactile and visual media, digital applications, and holographic and panoramic projections, the exhibition evokes emotion and provokes thought about the challenges we face.
Parallel educational programs designed for students from all over Greece, as well as Greek-speaking schools and organizations in Europe, are offered both in person and online, expanding access to knowledge and awareness of environmental issues.
