The SNFCC: Α Place of international Caliber and Global Recognition

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center’s (SNFCC) design, construction and full equipment is the largest single grant of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). In February, 2017, following the completion of the SNFCC’s construction, the SNF delivered the SNFCC as a gift to the Greek State, the legal owner of the project. At the same time, the SNF announced its commitment to continue supporting the SNFCC for the following five years, through grants totaling up to €50 million for the implementation of public programming and for covering SNFCC’s operational costs.

Since it first opened its doors to the public, the SNFCC has welcomed visitors of all ages, both from Greece and abroad, thus fulfilling its mission to provide a dynamic, open to all public space, while simultaneously confirming the significant potential for growth of the Greek society.

As a civic, cultural, environmental and educational landmark for Athens, but also for Europe as a whole, the SNFCC has become a venue for visiting dignitaries and Heads of States and Governments from Europe and beyond. Most recently, the SNFCC was visited by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, as part of the official State visit to Athens.

In November 2016, the SNFCC attained international recognition, with the visit of the former President of the United States, Barack Obama, who delivered his official speech, at the Stavros Niarchos Hall. This was President Obama’s first trip to Greece and the final State visit of his administration.

In the past, the Heads of State of EU countries of the South have honored the SNFCC with their presence, including, among others, the former President of the French Republic, Francois Hollande and the former Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Renzi, thereby establishing the SNFCC as a prominent landmark of both national and international caliber. In addition, the SNFCC has hosted a Meeting of European Affairs Ministers, European Parliament officials and members of the Party of European Socialists (PES).
