Zanneio was founded in 1874 by Helen Zanni, widow of the merchant and benefactor of Piraeus, Nikita Zanni, with the aim of providing accommodation, care and education to orphan children. Since 1984, Zanneio is housed in a complex which is comprised of a boarding house, an elementary school, a library, a theater, a multipurpose hall, clinics, as well as modern sports facilities for track and field, basketball and football. Currently, Zanneio provides care, accommodation, training, psychological support and medical care, as well as extracurricular sports and educational activities to children aged 6 to 18, whose families cannot meet their parental responsibilities due to financial, social and health problems that they face.
