The University of Fribourg is a teaching and research academic institution of 10,000 Swiss and international students. The Medieval Institute of the University of Fribourg runs the e-codices initiative (the Virtual Manuscript Library of Switzerland), which begun as a pilot project in 2005. The initiative makes medieval and early modern manuscripts accessible through a digital research library.
