Greek Sources in Swiss Libraries
For the project “Greek Sources in Swiss Libraries,” which includes digitizing 40 manuscripts and the additional work necessary to publish the manuscripts on the E-codices Web site. The selection includes manuscripts from various Swiss libraries, including the Abbey Library of Saint Gall, the Abbey Library of Einsiedeln, the Library of Geneva, and the Abbey Library of Beromünster. The project focuses on three types of materials: manuscripts from texts from Greek antiquity, medieval translations of significant ancient Greek foundation work, and medieval commentaries on key works of Greek antiquity.

The University of Fribourg, founded in 1889 by the Canton of Fribourg, hosts 10,000 students each year from Switzerland and abroad, and over 200 professors from 100 nations who study, teach and conduct research in five academic areas: Law, Economics and Social Sciences, Philosophy, Sciences and Theology. The E-codices initiative (the Virtual Manuscript Library of Switzerland), begun as a pilot project in 2005, is run by the Medieval Institute of the University of Fribourg and makes medieval and early modern manuscripts accessible through a digital research library maintained in four languages (D/F/E/I).
