The Public Catalogue Foundation

Project support

For the YourPaintings project to complete digitization of all publicly owned paintings in the UK and to create a website providing users worldwide with free access to images and information on 200,000 oil paintings.

The project’s objective is the democratization of art as well as, to educate and entertain people from school children to scholars. The Public Catalogue Foundation’s mission is the digitization of this collection, which is dispersed across the UK in museums, galleries, universities, hospitals and other civic buildings in order to create a complete illustrated record, and to make it accessible to the public.

The Public Catalogue Foundation was founded in 2002 with the mission of publishing a national series of affordable county-by-county illustrated catalogues including all oil and acrylic paintings in publicly owned collections in the UK, in order to improve public access to this collective heritage, eighty percent of which is not on view.
