For the partial support of the National team’s participation in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. Special Olympics is an international nonprofit organization established in 1968. It offers children and youth with mental disabilities, opportunities in training and participation in Olympic sports events. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. The Greek Department, founded in 1987, offers training in 28 Olympic sports, organizes local/regional/national championships and runs targeted awareness raising programs.
