Solidarity - N.G.O. of the Church of Greece

For purchasing and equipping a building in the area of Kypseli, Attiki to serve as the Shelter for Quadriplegic People.  The building is specially outfitted to meet the needs of quadriplegic people.

"Solidarity" is a non-governmental organization that was established in 2002. It is the main charity organization of the Church of Greece and has responsibility for assisting all foundations affiliated with the Church, such as orphanages and homes for the elderly across the country. It provides humanitarian aid to 28 countries by undertaking projects that are co-funded either by the European Union or the Hellenic Aid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In Greece, Solidarity has established and operates seven model guesthouses. In 2006, it established the boarding house “Epanentaxi” for the de-institutionalization of mentally ill people. In addition, it established the guesthouse “Agapi” for accommodating refugees in Thrace, “Anakoufisi,” a shelter for homeless people in Peireaus, the "Merimna" guesthouse for relatives of poor patients who are admitted for treatment at hospitals in Athens, and "Kalos Samareitis," a home for the elderly in the Peloponnese.  Accommodations in these short-term and long-term structures are free of charge.

Solidarity’s activities include, among others, conducting soup drives, offering free Greek language courses to immigrants, and running a 24-hour psychological helpline service. The organization is supported by an extended network of volunteers.
