Saint Demetrios Greek American School

Operating support
For supplementing four master-level teacher salaries and creating a social work position.  With a portion of the grant received in 2001, St. Demetrios was able to hire an additional teacher who worked to improve the level of instruction at the School as well as to increase professional development activities, which have helped improve teacher retention.  New academic programs such as Advanced Placement courses, combined with the existing academic program at the School, required increased teacher retention as well as additional staff. To address these needs, St. Demetrios created four master-level teaching positions in the areas of math, science, literature and writing over the following three years.  In addition, the School created a full-time social work position in order to cater to the needs of students who are experiencing difficulty in school due to problems at home.
