For a challenge donation to complete the Archives Preservation Project, a project involving researching, gathering, copying and digitizing images, oral testimonies and musical material related to the immigration of Greeks to the United States from 1890-1970.
Proteas was established in 2005 to implement the Archives Preservation Project. There is no central archive in the United States that documents the immigration of Greeks to the country.
A documentary, a book and an exhibition followed the Archives Preservation Project, all of which were based on the same thematic structure and shared the same curators. These subsequent projects were divided into three parts: "Immigrants 1890-1920," "Becoming Americans 1920-1950," and "Revival of Ethnicity 1950-1970."
