Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae

Project support
For creating an online compendium of documents gathered during research for the Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae (LIMC) and for an Encyclopedia, Thesaurus Cultus et Rituum Antiquorum (ThesCRA).

The documents, which are accessible to the public, are not only of significant importance to experts in the field but are also a source of inspiration for artists, poets, dramatists, film makers and art dealers around the world.

The Lexicon, completed in 1999 and published over the course of twenty years, consists of eight double volumes (each one is 1,000 pages and has 800 plates) containing the iconography of Greek, Roman and Etruscan mythology. Upon completion the ThesCRA will comprise five volumes, arranged thematically: a book of abbreviations and an index volume dealing with divination, prayer, gestures, acts of veneration and oaths.
