To support research and publication costs for a new critical edition of the Synods of the Eastern and Orthodox Churches as part of the Corpus Christianorum series, as well as the organization of an international conference in Bologna, and the presentation of the publications in Athens.

The John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies is a research institute focusing on the history of Christianity and the Christian Church, as well as its relationship with other religions. The Foundation has one of the largest specialized libraries in Europe in the field of Church history.
