Ippokrateio Hospital of Thessaloniki

Renovations
For expanding and renovating the Department of Pediatric Oncology and for renovations to a building that will house the Department of Thalassemia.

The General Hospital of Thessaloniki “Hippokrateio” is the largest hospital in Greece and can accommodate 1,000 people.  The hospital has 33 departments, 55 laboratories and 166 outpatient clinics.

The Department of Pediatric Oncology was created in 1990 and is the only such department in Northern Greece.  The staff consists of 5 doctors and 17 nurses.  The Department receives patients from Northern and Central Greece as well as from the Northern Aegean Sea islands.  It provides comprehensive treatment to an average of 40-50 children on an annual basis. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation donation will allow for the renovation and expansion of the Department spaces from 400 sq. meters to 600 sq. meters, as well as for the completion of works for the second floor of the new building and the relocation of the Department of Thalassemia.
