The Hellenic Union was established in 1981. Its goals are to bring together its members, to cooperate with other related unions, to organize educational seminars, to follow Maritime Legislation, to assist unemployed members in securing a job, to provide legal services to all of its members as needed, and to financially support members and their families who are in need. The Union is administered by a seven member council and has 1,200 members who work exclusively in the yachting industry.
