For The Great Ideas Series program organized by the Fulbright Foundation. The Great Ideas Series has successfully supported educational and cultural connections between Greece and the United States, with the goal of bringing highly esteemed American experts and artists to Greece to perform and discuss current topics of interest to the Greek and American people. The Series aimed at facilitating mutual understanding and to create long-lasting collaborations between organizations in the two countries. The program comprised of lectures on economics, medicine, education, current developments in fine arts and jazz music, and architecture and urban development. Typically three events took place in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece, along with plans for dinners with professionals and student seminars. In Athens, there were a student event and a public presentation, and in Thessaloniki there was an additional presentation.Four noted Americans participated in the series: Dr. Ruth Faden, Executive Director, Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics;Mr. Glenn Lowry, Ph.D., Director, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA); Dr. Richard Levin, President, Yale University Jim Gianopulos Chairman & CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment. The Fulbright Foundation in Greece was established in 1948. It offers Greek and American citizens opportunities to pursue a wide variety of educational projects. In Greece, it has awarded more than 2,400 grants to Greek citizens and about 1,300 to U.S. citizens.
