ESTIA - Agios Nikolaos

For a bus to transport people with special needs.

Founded in 1992, Estia - Agios Nikolaos is a German-Greek non-profit institution for developmentally disabled adults.  It is based upon the German Lebensgemeinschaft model. The foundation’s operation falls under the supervision of the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare. The association consists of autonomous houses, each of which can accommodating eight to ten adults, their “parents” or caretakers, and a volunteers from Germany who are either serving their alternative military term at the foundation or are doing their practical training.  Members spend their days at professional workshops, namely ceramic, carpentry, jewellery, candle making, and biological cultivation workshops. During the afternoons, members read, sing, play, exercise, dance and, during the summer months, go swimming on a daily basis.
