Ecole Française d'Athènes

Program support

The grant supports the creation of a traveling exhibition and a series of parallel activities marking the 100th anniversary of the first excavations at Philippi, to take place in 2014-2015. The program is a result of a collaboration between important research institutions and academia, and will support the case for the site of Philippi as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Ecole Française d'Athènes was established in 1837 and operates under the supervision of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It is the oldest French research insititution abroad and the first archaelogical institute to be established in Athens.
