Organization Website
To support Citymeals-on-Wheels services in the areas of Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island that were hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy. Before and after the Hurricane, Citymeals and its volunteers rose to the challenge, delivering 3-meal emergency boxes to vulnerable older New Yorkers and to those normally able to walk to their local senior centers for meals, but who were and are unable to do so while centers were closed due to the storm. Citymeals is also reaching the elderly who don’t normally receive Citymeals deliveries but have been stranded in their homes because of the storm. Citymeals-on-Wheels’ staff and volunteers provide homebound elderly New Yorkers with nutritionally balanced meals, as well as human companionship. Since 1981, the organization has ensured that this vulnerable population receives meals on weekdays [please change this word to WEEKENDS] and holidays, to supplement the government-funded weekday meal deliveries.
