Aristotelis Society

Roof restoration
For restoring the roof over the main part of the Aristotelis Society building.

The main building was initially constructed in the early 1980s. In 2002 a new section on the third floor was added through a grant funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. There is severe damage due to deterioration in most parts of the old building, with the most urgent work needed on the roof covering the part of the building containing the classrooms, the theater and a portion of the archive room. The grant will help preserve the Society’s building and its valuable contents.

The Aristotelis Society is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1941 with the goal of enhancing the cultural education of the local people of Florina, located on the northwestern Greek border. The organization currently counts more than 1,000 members.  It operates 19 departments that offer lessons in music, chess, theater, photography, drawing, painting, traditional dancing, and athletics to people of all ages. The Society also operates a library and a folkloric museum, housed within the Society’s building.
