10 May 2010

On Friday, the 14th of May 2010, ELISA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is organizing a scientific conference on the topic “0-5. Parents & Children invest in the present and the future.” The event, which will be held at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, is part of a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, aimed at raising public awareness on child abuse.

During the conference, scientists from Greece and abroad will present the latest data on the importance of the pre-school age in terms of mental, emotional and social development, they will let parents have their say, and they will attempt to break the silence that still surrounds the issue of child abuse.

This event is part of a broader grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, which also includes producing television and radio spots to raise awareness, publishing information materials and creating a website for the newly founded organization.

ELISA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children was founded in 2008, for the protection, treatment and rehabilitation of children who have been or are at risk of becoming victims of abuse. The Organization has founded a hostel for children- victims of abuse, in collaboration with SOS Children Villages.
