27 MARCH 2019 / DIALOGUES: The History of Rebetiko

In the March installment of the DIALOGUES series, we embarked on a retrospective journey on the history of rebetiko.

Musicians, academics, and craftsmen of musical instruments discussed the roots and influence of rebetiko in the world music scene, its sociological value, its stigmatization and relatively recent destigmatization, as well as the cultural trends that have transported it across the globe. The event took place on March 27. 

This time DIALOGUES traveled to Syros, birthplace of Markos Vamvakaris, a leading figure in the rebetiko movement.
