Sports Paths returns to the most remote islands to help children stay active

Jul 07, 2022
The youngest residents of remote islands may live by the sea, but they don’t know how to swim well, and although there are plenty of empty and open spaces where they can play, they end up spending multiple hours in front of a screen.

For seven years now, the Sports Paths program has decided to do something about it. And it seems to be succeeding, because the kids look forward to participating in the program every summer.

Once again, this year between July 4 and July 23, children from 11 remote islands, such as Agios Efstratios and Psara, have the opportunity to participate in the Sports Paths summer camp. They will partake in swimming lessons and enjoy multiple sports activities, solve math quizzes, play chess, go on treasure hunts, and much more. The children will also be in for a surprise, as bands from Schoolwave Festival will be participating in the closing ceremony.

The Sport Paths initiative is designed and implemented by NGO Regeneration & Progress, through its Sports Excellence Department, under the scientific supervision of the 1st Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Athens University Medical School, with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF)
