A different kind of soccer tournament at the SNFCC

May 03, 2022
For the second year, Stavros Niarchos Park at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is transforming into a big stadium to host the “Let’s play Rush Goalie” youth soccer tournament.

From May 16 to June 9, the Great Lawn will be crisscrossed with passes and graced with goals in this one-of-a-kind tournament, organized by the SNFCC in partnership with the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress and with support from SNF.

“Rush goalie” is an informal variation in soccer play where there is no official goalkeeper. The goalkeeper position is taken by the player appointed “rush goalie” when they are within the penalty area—so they are always rushing between the goal and normal outfield play.

Young soccer aficionados will form teams and play rush goalie games in two age categories (10 to 12 and 13 to 15) to stay active and have fun while learning about values like collaboration, teamwork, and respect.
