Christmas comes early to the village of Vamvakou

Dec 04, 2021
If you’re one of those people who puts up Christmas decorations as early as November, then Vamvakou is the place for you.

In the mountain village, the holiday atmosphere kicked into high gear on December 4 with Christmas lights, festive performances, and a live concert by Mariza Rizou and her band. And this is just the beginning. The festivities will continue throughout December, culminating on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Check out the full December schedule here and learn more at VamvakouRevival.org.

Located in the Peloponnese, only a few hours’ drive from Athens, Vamvakou’s idyllic mountain setting on the slopes of Mount Parnon makes it a perfect weekend destination in Greece. A few decades ago, the village had hundreds of residents, but over the years, its population dwindled. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) supports the project to revive the village of Vamvakou.
