The Global Editors Network (GEN) presented a detailed program for and announced the speakers at its upcoming international Summit at a press conference on Thursday, May 9, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
This year’s GEN Summit, titled “the VVV challenge: Voice, Visual Journalism and Verification” will be held in Athens at the SNFCC, between June 13–15, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). More than 700 journalists from 80 countries will participate in the Summit to discuss journalistic models, public outreach platforms, ways to address the phenomenon of disinformation, and state-of-the-art newsroom tools. Speakers at this year’s Summit include important figures from the field of journalism such as Katharine Viner (The Guardian) and John Micklethwait (Bloomberg).
SNF supports stellar independent and ethical journalism through collaborations with a wide range of partners, including the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Furthermore, iMEdD, the incubator for Media Education and Development, was established recently in Athens with the exclusive support of the SNF to promote transparency, independence, and excellence in journalism. Athens Photo World, a major photojournalism event honoring the rich professional and personal legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning Greek photojournalist Yannis Behrakis, will also take place at the SNFCC in early June.
