The Hologram of the Historic Spyros Louis’ Cup is the Newest Permanent Exhibit of the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki with the SNF’s support
04 April 2018

In March 2018, a holographic projector that showcases the Silver Cup awarded to Spyros Louis, the first Marathon Winner at the inaugural Modern Olympic Games, has been installed at the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki. The hologram was granted to the Museum by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

In order for the visitors to be better informed about the Cup’s history and significance, the hologram is accompanied by audiovisual material on the history of the 1896 Olympic Games that took place in Athens and Spyros Louis’ victory in the Marathon Race.

The Spyros Louis’ Cup, a symbol of the Olympic ideal, was designed by Michel Bréal. The Cup was acquired by the SNF at an international auction and is permanently on display at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
Before being exhibited at the SNFCC, more than 3,500,000 visitors had the opportunity to see up close the Cup during its exhibit at the Acropolis Museum in Athens and the Olympic Museum in Laussane.
