Medical Emergency Relief International (Merlin)

School creation
For a project to reduce maternal mortality in the Eastern Equatoria State in Southern Sudan, with the establishment of a midwifery school. Merlin aims for the restoration of the Nimule hospital and, in order to fight the dramatic lack in skilled midwives in the region, the project will establish a midwifery school adjacent to the hospital. The beneficiaries will be selected in collaboration with local communities to guarantee a good distribution of midwives across the state. Potential midwives will follow an 18-month midwifery curriculum and gain practical experience at Nimule Hospital’s obstetric unit.

Merlin provides medical care in response to natural disasters, wars or any humanitarian emergencies, with its mobile clinics. The charity rebuilds the capacity of the collapsed local health services, until they are ready to operate independently, providing both restoration of infrastructures and training.
