The grant supports the nine Family Support Centers countrywide in Athens, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Komotini, Iraklio, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Peristeri and Ioannina. In addressing families in poverty, the centers adopt an innovative and holistic model for primary prevention, offering a wide range of services to the families, which aim to detect and prevent problems, to offer therapy and to keep the family together. Services are tailored to the needs of each family and include problem diagnosis, parental consulting, psychological and psychotherapeutic support to children and parents, educational support to children, creative activities, as well as support in kind with food, clothing, educational material and ad hoc financial assistance. The purpose of SOS Children's Villages is to help children who have lost their parents or are homeless for other reasons. The principles of SOS pedagogy are considered exemplary and the SOS Children’s Village family is considered the best alternative to the natural family environment. SOS Greece runs 3 Villages in Attica, Alexandroupoli and Thessaloniki, as well as 2 Youth Houses and 3 Social Centers.
