The Mobile Medical Units Travel to the Greek Island of Schinoussa

Feb 27, 2019

One hundred nautical miles from Anafi, where a Mobile Medical Units (MMU) visit was the subject of a short film shared previously with you, between Naxos, Iraklia and Koufonissia, is the island of Schinoussa. The island, with around only 100 permanent residents living on its nine square kilometers, was visited by the Mobile Medical Units for the second time since the launch of the program on January 12th and 13th.

During the two-day visit, the MMU team of 30 doctors, nurses, and technical staff made 220 free medical appointments with 80 residents. These included 46 ultrasounds, 30 electrocardiograms, 11 bone density measurements, and 8 Pap tests and mammography tests. On the last day, shortly before they had finished packing up their medical equipment, MMU doctors were called to perform an emergency minor surgery on an 87-year-old woman, which was successful. The mission ended on the same positive note with which it began.

Before the ship departed from the port of Schinoussa, the residents bid the team farewell and asked them to visit again soon. Until we meet again, then!
