18 MAY 2017 / Inauguration event for the new «Jewelry Resident Program» of the Ilias Lalaounis Jewerly Museum

On Wednesday, May 17th, Ilias Lalaounis Jewerly Museum inaugurated its new «Jewelry Resident Program».

The program is made possible through an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) which supported the establishment and the one-year operation of two live metalsmithing and traditional crafts studio workshops. These new specifically designed spaces of the Museum will host 2 young Greek artists and 2 new young Greek researchers, enabling them to develop and showcase the contemporary Greek jewelry art. Guided group tours, educational programs and lectures on art history, decorative arts and jewelry are among the activities that will take place at the workshops.

Founded by the renowned Greek jewelry designer, Ilias Lalaounis, in order to showcase the history and art of jewelry making, the Museum holds a collection of over 4,000 jewels and small ornaments, a rich archive of photos and books on jewelry and its making.
