11 NOVEMBER 2016 / The SNF to receive award for its contribution in Sports

On Friday, November 11th the AIMS Best Marathon Runner Awards took place in honor of internationally acclaimed athletes of the Marathon. The event was organized in the context of the 21st International AIMS Conference.

Top tier athletes were awarded during the evening, amongst which the Marathon legend Haile Gebrselassie for his Lifelong contribution to the sport, as well as the Olympic long distance runners Eliud Kipchoge and Jemima Sumgong as the 2016 Best Marathon Runners in the world.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation was honored for its contribution is Sports and for the acquisition of the Bréal’s Silver Cup, the first Marathon Winner’s Cup presented to Spyros Louis at the inaugural Modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. The Foundation was represented by Mr. George Agouridis, Member of the SNF Board of Directors. The event took place at the SNFCC where the Silver Cup is on permanent display.
