SNF Co-President Andreas Dracopoulos Receives the Rank of the Officer of the Legion of Honor of the Republic of France

Jul 13, 2016
On Tuesday, July 12th, Andreas Dracopoulos, Co-President of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, was awarded the rank of Officer of the Legion of Honor of the Republic of France.

Mr. Dracopoulos was honored for his and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s, philanthropic contributions to France and around the world. The ceremony took place at the French Embassy in Athens, and was hosted by His Excellency Christophe Chantepy, Ambassador of France in Greece.

The National Order of the Legion of Honor (Ordre National de la Légion d'honneur) is the premier order of the French Republic. It was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, as a general military and civil order of merit, and it is conferred without regard to birth and/or religion, provided that anyone admitted swears to uphold liberty and equality.

Ranks of the Legion of Honor may be awarded to foreign citizens in recognition of actions benefitting the country of France or, more broadly, in honor of achievements which endorse its ideals.
